The Salvation Army in Brazil prepares for Rio 2016
30 January 2016
IN August and September 2016, millions of people will flock to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil for the first-ever Olympic and Paralympic Games to be held in South America. More than 7.5 million tickets for 64 different sports will be sold – covering disciplines as diverse as archery and water polo.
IHQ Communications team member David Giles went to the former capital city to find out how The Salvation Army, which has been at work in Brazil since 1922, is working with the poorest members of the community while developing plans for outreach and sports ministry to coincide with the sporting extravaganza. His article is featured in the January-March 2016 issue of All the World magazine, The Salvation Army's international publication.
