How We Serve Seniors in Silicon Valley

Jul 25, 2019 | by Salvation Army Silicon Valley

2019 marks the 45th anniversary of the county of Santa Clara Senior Nutrition Program!

With the support of generous donors, staff, and volunteers, we work hard to stimulate the minds and bodies of older adults with educational opportunities, low-impact exercise, lunches, and other "young at heart" activities. In addition, our Senior Center serves hot, nutritious meals five day a week.

Depression and dementia are some of the common concerns of senior citizens. Thankfully, recent studies show that consistent human contact and interaction can reduce dementia and depression, which is why we are so proud to foster joy and a sense of belonging with all of our senior programs.

Here are some of the fun events and celebrations we host throughout the year.

Lunar Celebration

Arts & Crafts

Easter Raffle

We had an Easter raffle...and these were our winners!

Father's Day

For Father's Day, we hosted a crazy tie contest and raffle with some singing entertainment.

Annual Luau

Check out these incredible decorations from our annual Luau Party!

Blood Pressure Readings

One of the health services we provide is free blood pressure readings. Below you can see one of our nurses from SJSU taking a reading. Blood Pressure readings will start back up in fall.

45th Anniversary Celebration

For this important milestone, we honored our seniors with a steak and shrimp lunch. Each person was given a 45th-anniversary mug. We served 150 people!

Music & Dance Performances

Recently, Los Lupeños Juvenil stopped by to perform at our Senior Center. What a treat! Our seniors really enjoyed watching these talented children.
