Soup kitchen, homeless shelter, and sober living environment serving Silicon Valley for over 50 years.
For over 50 years, our kitchens have prepared hot meals for men, women, and children throughout the Silicon Valley. In addition, Emmanuel House also provides overnight shelter services to homeless men.
"When I first came to The Salvation Army, I was lost, homeless, and living a life of addiction. It was during my time at the Army?s Adult Rehabilitation Center that I was able to find purpose and meaning for my life. After 20 years of sobriety and now working as the Director for our Men?s Shelter, I am able to be a testimony to the grace of God and encouragement to the men we serve on a daily basis." -Dan, Director of Emmanuel House
With a growing homeless population in Santa Clara and throughout the Bay Area, the Emmanuel House serves an important need in our community. Here are some of the services we provide:
Since doors first opened in 1967, our kitchens have prepared hot meals for anyone who comes. Men, women, and children of any age are welcome to eat a free nutritious lunch or dinner every day (no lunch on Sundays). Lunch is held from 12:15 - 1pm and dinner is from 5:15 - 6pm.
The Emmanuel House provides overnight shelter services 365 days a year to men. Homeless men receive 14 free nights per year that can be used consecutively or divided up however they like. Afterward, there is a fee of $5 per night.
After taking showers and stowing baggage in a locked room for the night, each man receives a bed assignment, blankets, pillows, and sheets, which are stripped and washed the next morning.
Our full kitchen serves a hot dinner to overnighters every night at 4:30pm, as well as a continental breakfast of bread, cereals, milk, and juice every morning starting at 6am.
The Motive Man Program is a short-term, transitional residency program of up to two years for men who are able to earn a sufficient income. Men that reside in the program are able to come and go as they please within limits (i.e., we will make allowances for who need to work a graveyard shift). To participate, individuals must maintain active sobriety and follow house rules. They pay $100 per week starting at time of intake, and $20 of the fee is set aside in a personal savings account that participants can use toward a room or apartment when they leave the program.
Homeless men who have a strong desire to see their lives rebuilt by attaining full-time employment can become job search volunteers. Volunteers keep the Emmanuel House clean and organized every day to make sure the facilities are able to serve the public adequately. Their duties include serving meals, operating dishwasher, laundry, sweep & mop floors, taking out garbage and keeping the adjacent neighborhood free of garbage. Graduates who find full-time employment may move into the transitional housing program.
We welcome anyone with the desire to receive spiritual uplifting. Meeting Schedule:
