We Embrace Senior Citizens

"Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life." Proverbs 16:31

A hot meal. A warm smile. A place to Belong.

Every day, dozens of senior citizens gather at our Senior Nutrition Center for a hot, healthy meal. For many, it's the only nutritious meal they receive each day. Some of the men and women have been utilizing this service for years. Others are stopping in for their first time. Regardless, we go out of our way to make them feel welcome.

The Salvation Army of Silicon Valley facilitates community and reminds each and every person that they're important. In addition to well-planned meals, we also host fun holiday parties and provide lots of opportunities for seniors to be with their peers and socialize.

"We found a warm, welcoming place"

"My wife and I are homeless and currently living in our car. If it was not for The Salvation Army's Senior Nutrition Program, we would not have a safe place to eat a good healthy meal on a daily basis. As the Senior Program, we have found a warm, welcoming place where we have made good friends and have a place to go to keep us off of the streets. I'm thankful that The Salvation Army of Silicon Valley provides a place for seniors like us to come for safety and a place of community." -Seniors MaryEllen & Joe

Our Senior Programs

Our senior program in San Jose is one of fun and fellowship. We provide a safe place where seniors can eat a healthy meal and socialize.

  • Bingo - Seniors play bingo on Tuesdays and Fridays and have the opportunity to win prizes.
  • Monthly Holiday Celebrations - Parties cover various themes throughout the year. Some of our most popular celebrations include Chinese New Year, End of Summer Luau, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
  • Movie Mondays - Seniors can sit back with popcorn, relax, and enjoy a classic or a new-release movie.
  • Dance Classes - We offer a variety of dance classes such as zumba and ballet. Check with the center for dates, times, and classes currently offered.
  • Ping Pong - Daily games played in the courtyard, weather permitting.
  • Weekly Singalongs - Live entertainment!
  • Blood Pressure - Seniors can receive blood pressure readings. Check with the center for dates and times.
  • Presentations - These cover relevant health and wellness topics.
  • Groceries - In addition to daily meals, about 50-60 Brown Bags (groceries) are handed out each week through Family Services.

The Senior Center is now accepting donations of CDs, videos, and books.
